How to approach it
- Say in the introduction which side is stronger. 'Outweigh' asks for a judgement, not just a list.
- Give the weaker side first and the stronger side second, so the essay builds towards your view.
- Think about more than the customer: shops, jobs and town centres are affected too.

In recent years, shopping on the internet has grown rapidly, and many people now order everything from clothes to groceries from their phones. Although this trend causes some problems for traditional shops and their staff, I believe that its advantages are greater than its disadvantages.
The main drawback of online shopping is its effect on local businesses. Small shops cannot compete with the low prices of large internet companies, and many have closed, leaving town centres with empty buildings and fewer jobs. There are also disadvantages for customers. Clothes cannot be tried on, so items are often sent back, and the constant delivery of parcels creates extra traffic and packaging waste.
On the other hand, the benefits for ordinary people are considerable. The most obvious is convenience: someone who works long hours, or who lives far from a city, can buy almost anything at any time without travelling. Online shopping is especially helpful for elderly or disabled people who find it difficult to carry heavy bags. Furthermore, the internet makes it easy to compare prices from many sellers in a few minutes, which saves money and encourages businesses to keep their prices fair. Customers can also read reviews written by other buyers before they decide.
It should also be remembered that online shopping creates work as well as destroying it. Warehouses, delivery firms and website designers all employ large numbers of people, and small producers can now reach customers all over the country without paying rent for a shop.
In conclusion, while the decline of traditional shops is a real loss, online shopping offers convenience, choice and lower prices to millions of people. For these reasons, I consider it a development whose advantages clearly outweigh its disadvantages.
