- • Format: An oral test: a USCIS officer asks questions from the official list of 128 civics questions
- • Who takes it: Applicants for naturalization who filed on or after 20 October 2025 (earlier applicants take the 2008 test: up to 10 questions from a list of 100, with 6 needed to pass)
- • Applicants aged 65 or over with 20 years as permanent residents answer 10 questions from a special list of 20
- • The civics test is taken alongside an English test
The real test is spoken, with open answers. These practice questions use multiple choice to help you learn the facts, and each explanation lists every answer USCIS accepts. Questions about who holds office now (the President, Vice President, Speaker, Chief Justice, your senators, representative and governor) are not included, because the answers change: check the current answers at uscis.gov/citizenship/testupdates.
